Escalating anti-refugee sentiments and actions of governments worldwide leave us in little doubt that it is time for each one of us to take our responsibility in welcoming and including refugees and working to change the political environment for their protection.
World Refugee Day is celebrated every year on 20 June. This international day was designated by the United Nations to honour refugees around the globe, shine a light on their plight, and work together to find long-term solutions to displacement.

Father Brian Strassburger, SJ, is a Jesuit priest who serves in the Diocese of Brownsville, Texas. He resides near the US-Mexico border where he responds to the pastoral needs in the area, with a particular focus on the migrant community on both sides of the border.
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” Luke 23:34. This is one of Jesus’ last words on the cross. But, you might tell me, it’s Easter; why talk about Jesus on the cross now? Because Easter can’t happen if we don’t forgive those who hurt us, or even commit atrocities like Jesus had to endure.
