World Refugee Day 2025

20 June 2025|JRS International

This World Refugee Day, stand in solidarity with refugees. It is time to dismantle the harmful trends facing those forced to flee and take responsibility for building welcoming and inclusive communities that respect the dignity of all.

Across the world, we are witnessing a rise in anti-refugee sentiment and an intensification of efforts to close borders, detain, and deport people who have risked everything in search of safety and protection. These actions, and the narratives used to justify them, dehumanise refugees.

There is little room for doubt: the time to act is now. We must reclaim the values of solidarity, inclusivity, and compassion in order to reaffirm the shared humanity that unites us all.

In a world that is turning away from refugees, don’t be afraid to be different and to make a difference. Today, make a choice to protect refugees and include them in your community.

What can you do to stand in solidarity with refugees?

  • Support refugees by helping them find housing, schools, doctors, and work.
  • Help refugees learn the language, culture, and how to stay safe and healthy in your community.
  • Organise community events where people can learn about refugees and their individual stories.
  • Join a refugee rights organisation in your city, country or region and write letters to your political representative about upholding the 1951 Refugee Convention and promoting refugee resettlement and other complementary pathways for refugees to find protection in your country.
  • Join a refugee rights organisation in your city, country or region and write letters to your political representative against the detention and deportation of migrants and refugees.
  • Support our programmes and help refugees heal, learn, and determine their own future.
